Josep M. Torrents was born in Barcelona, Spain, in February 1965. He received Master of Telecommunication Engineering and PhD in 1989 and 1996, respectively, both from the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain. He was visiting scholar at Northwestern University 1998, 1999. He is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering.

His current research interest is focused in non-destructive measurement methods in the civil engineering fields, mainly ultrasound, rf and magnetic induction. Also works in signal processing of sensors on board ships.
